Even though Tony Dow’s mother was Clara Bow's double, a Mack Sennett bathing beauty and one of Hollywood's first stuntwomen, Muriel Montrose Dow had no aspirations for her son Tony Dow to have a career in the entertainment industry.  At an early age he had earned many national swimming records and the reputation of the best junior diver in the country.  In 1956, at age eleven, his Olympic quest was interrupted when a long time family friend asked if Tony could accompany him to the studio to meet with the producers for a new TV series, Johnny Wildlife,  and he landed the part.  The pilot never sold, but within a couple of months Tony had to make a choice between the role of "Boy" in Tarzan, being a Mouseketeer, or playing the big brother on Leave it to Beaver.  In production for six years and one of America's all-time favorite sitcoms, the Cleavers and the town of Mayfield  celebrated  it’s  50th anniversary in 2007!  This set the stage for Tony Dow’s multi-faceted career in the field of entertainment.

 

Tony Dow went on to make guest appearances on such series as Mr. Novak,  My Three Sons,   Dr. Kildare, Eleventh Hour, The New Mike Hammer,  Murder She Wrote,  Quincy,   Knight Rider,  Square Pegs,  Love Boat,   and even played  a cannibal on a two-part episode of Freddy's Nightmares, to name a few..  He was featured for several years on daytime soaps General Hospital and Never Too Young and co-starred in TV movies including A New American Tragedy,  Death Scream, The Ordeal of Bill Carne and  High School USA.

 

In Tony Dow’s 20-year directing career he has been able to cross over from comedy to drama on series ranging from Coach to Star Trek-Deep Space 9, and from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, The TV Show to the award winning, Babylon-5. Other directing work includes episodes of Swamp Thing, Cover Me: The Real Life Story of an FBI Family,  The New Leave it to Beaver, two of which he wrote,  Harry and the Hendersons,  The New Lassie,  and Get A Life

 

In the field of producing , Tony Dow and his wife, Lauren and Melissa Gilbert conceived the successful two-hour documentary Child Stars: Their Story for  A&E.  He  wrote and produced a remake of the sci-fi classic It Came From Outer Space, for Universal, produced and supervised visual effects for The Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space  and produced visual effects for the  movie/pilot,  Doctor Who for Universal and the BBC.

 

Tony Dow enjoys theatre and has starred in stage productions of Barefoot in the Park, Come Blow Your Horn,  Lovers and Other Strangers. and the 17-month National tour of So Long, Stanley, He appeared in the world premiere of The Chesterfield Woman in Los Angeles and starred in the Southern California premiere of The Nerd,  at the La Mirada Civic Theatre.  He received a Dramalogue award for directing the first west coast production of K-2.

 

 

Tony Dow now splits his time between supervising the development of a stunning condo project in Santa Monica and pursuing his long time interest in sculpture. His work is shown in an prominent gallery in Beverly Hills and he was recently chosen as one of two sculptors to represent the U.S. in an international exhibition at the Louvre in Paris.

 

It was on a McDonald's commercial that he met and fell in love with his beautiful wife Lauren, the producer, who cast him in the role.  Tony’s son, Christopher, is a City Firefighter in Fresno where he lives with his wife Melissa,  her 12-year old son, Tanner and their three year old darling baby girl, Tyla.
